This special event was full of inspiring moments. For the fifth year, 100 friends and family ran to honor Ian Wolfe who died in 2008 in a bicycle accident.  The Wolfes facilitated a $3,000 donation from Erie Insurance and presented it to TLC during the post-race awards ceremony. Robert Longo, 40 year cancer survivor who lost his leg to cancer, led a moment of inspiration as he crossed the finish line last, with every runner, guest, and volunteer gathered at the finish line to cheer him across. Wendy Epstein, special education teacher at TLC’s Katherine Thomas School has been working with a group of students to train for the 5k in an after school running club. Almost 40 KTS students, parents and siblings participated in the run and walk. KTS is an independent day school for students in preschool through twelfth grade with moderate to severe language and learning disabilities and/or high-functioning autism.

Once again, participants enjoyed a post-race sponsor expo featuring free food, drinks and giveaways from event sponsors including: Avenue Wealth, Giant Food, LLC, Enterprise, Shady Grove Orthopaedics, Fleet Feet Sports of Gaithersburg, The Amy DePreta/Patricia Elder Real Estate Team, Limbach Inc., RadiantBlue Technologies, Fitness First, Cava Mezze, Schrier Physical Therapy, Potomac Pizza, Hair Cuttery, Run Farther & Faster. Rockville-based band, Throwing Wrenches, provided entertainment for runners on the course.

TLC’s King of the Road race is certified by the USA Track and Field Association, and organized by TLC with the timing and scoring by the Montgomery County Road Runners Association. All runner finish times were reported to the Washington Running Report.
