Rockville, Md.—On Sunday, November 17, a cool fall morning was the backdrop for more than 500 runners and walkers from throughout the metro area who participated in TLC’s 9th Annual King of the Road 5K Run/1 Mile Fun Run. Presented by King Automotive Group, the event raised $33,000 to support 2,000 people served annually by TLC—The Treatment and Learning Centers, a local, non-profit organization that provides educational, therapeutic, and employment services to children and adults with special needs.

This special event was full of inspiring moments. For the sixth year, 75 friends and family ran to honor Ian Wolfe who died in 2008 in a bicycle accident. Wendy Epstein, special education teacher at TLC’s Katherine Thomas School has been working with a group of students to train for the 5k in an after school running club. Almost 40 KTS students, parents and siblings participated in the run and walk. KTS is an independent day school for students in preschool through twelfth grade with moderate to severe language and learning disabilities and/or autism. The students ran in memory of a classmate’s father who died earlier this year.
Once again, participants enjoyed a post-race sponsor expo featuring free food, drinks and giveaways from event sponsors including: Avenue Wealth, Giant Food, LLC, Enterprise, Shady Grove Orthopaedics, Fleet Feet Sports of Gaithersburg, Shady Grove Radiology, OrangeTheory Fitness, Ecobeco, Title Boxing Club, The Amy DePreta/Patricia Elder Real Estate Team, Limbach Inc., Schrier Physical Therapy, Potomac Pizza, Run Farther & Faster. Panera Bread provided bagels and Drink More Water provided water for all of the runners along the course and at the finish line.
TLC’s King of the Road race is certified by the USA Track and Field Association, and organized by TLC with the timing and scoring by the Montgomery County Road Runners Association. All runner finish times were reported to the Washington Running Report.
