An occupational therapist and speech-language pathologist lead this fun-filled, small group experience for children. The program runs for six weeks, and participants may register for the Tuesday group, the Thursday group, or both groups. Sessions are held outdoors and will focus on skills related to:
• Self-regulation and sensory processing
• Visual-spatial processing
• Abstract thinking, problem solving and sequencing
• Socialization and interaction
• Play skills
Local parks visited may include: Meadowside Nature Center, Cabin John Park, Black Hills Regional Park, Schaeffer Farm, Locust Grove Nature Center, Woodley Gardens Park and Germantown Park (subject to change). Parents will provide transportation to the selected park. Current occupational therapy and speech-language evaluation reports or a current IEP are required for admission.
Sensory Integration/Occupational Therapy Program
Little Friends in Motion (Ages 3–4), Friends in Motion (Ages 5–7)
Intended for children who are experiencing sensory processing and motor planning difficulties, the areas addressed in these programs include self-regulation and sensory integration, play skills, motor planning, abstract thinking and sequencing, and socialization. The program utilizes theme-based sensory-motor experiences, within a group setting led by licensed Occupational Therapists and assistants. A current occupational therapy evaluation or a current IEP is required for admission. PLUS! A Speech-Language Pathologist will provide consultation with Occupational Therapists each week to enhance communication skill development.
