KTS High School Programs
The High School Program
Grades 9 – 12, July 3 – August 11
This engaging and educational program is open to students entering grades 9-12 in the fall. Students may attend a half-day program of academic classes or a full-day, which includes an afternoon of leadership development activities. Summer classes are designed to help students focus on reinforcing basic skills through an academic theme while using the arts to support concepts learned. Skill areas include reading, organizational study skills, writing, critical thinking, and mathematics, presented in a lively and creative setting. From 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., students are immersed in the intertwined themes of short stories. An extended English period includes reading and analyzing text and then enhancing comprehension through art and other experiential activities. The double math period strengthens and refines students’ abilities in mathematical decision making as well as financial literacy, and activities are connected to the summer theme and to next steps/independent living. The afternoon leadership program focuses on empowering students to be successful in high school and beyond. Areas addressed include developing critical thinking skills, time management skills, positive interpersonal skills, and building self-esteem by understanding one’s strengths. Students will participate in entrepreneurial business projects, community service, and team and confidence building activities. After a brief lunch period, the afternoon program runs from 12:30-3:00 pm. Both half day and full day programs include time for lunch.
