Procedures and Process
The Katherine Thomas School application process from start to finish takes approximately two weeks. During that period, if a parent(s) expresses an interest in KTS, Marjorie Theard, Admissions Director, invites the parent(s) to an open house or a visit to the school. Once an application is submitted, Marjorie reviews the application and passes it to the High School, Lower and Middle School or Preschool Director.
The director, along with select staff, makes a decision as to whether KTS can adequately meet the needs of the student. If so, at this point in the process, the lower/middle/high school student is invited for a two-day visit to the school where he or she is assigned a “buddy” to help orient the applicant through the visit. Preschool students have a one day visit. KTS faculty and clinicians will then observe the student in the classroom to evaluate how well the student acclimates to the environment and how well he or she relates to the activities and other students. After this period of evaluation the Admissions Team will make a final decision on acceptance of the new student.
Interested parents should call the Admissions Director to attend an Open House, or arrange a personal tour of the school. The completed application form should then be submitted with the Parent Evaluation Form and the $125 application fee.
Current psychological and educational tests are required, and reports may be submitted with the application, or sent directly to the Admissions Director from professionals. We recommend a psychological evaluation within two years of the date of the application, and an educational evaluation within one year. Other relevant tests and reports (speech/language, occupational therapy, tutoring, etc.) should also be submitted. The child’s present teacher should be asked to complete and submit the Teacher Evaluation Form.
The Katherine Thomas School has a rolling admissions policy, whereby students may apply at any time during the year and receive an admissions decision as soon as the process is completed. Students are encouraged to enroll at any time, and mid-year enrollments will be made, if appropriate, as space is available.
Admission applications may be submitted at any time for the following school year or for any openings that may occur during the current school year.
