Charitable Estate Planning

The Legacy Club for TLC includes individuals who have chosen to include TLC in their estate plans to ensure that future generations will continue to benefit from our programs and services. Your planned gift can help provide free services to families who could not otherwise afford the care they need, staff training to ensure those we serve benefit from the latest approaches and high-quality facilities for our programs.

A planned gift can be as simple as including TLC in your will using the following language:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to The Treatment and Learning Centers (TLC) located in Rockville, MD, [write in the specific amount or percentage] to be used in support of the mission and general purposes of TLC. TLC’s Tax ID number is 52-0607924.”

Other planned giving options can help you minimize your estate taxes, create an additional income stream during your lifetime, or redirect a life insurance policy you no longer need. Possible solutions could include:

Charitable Trusts

Consider one of two types of trust. A Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust pays a fixed dollar amount each year to you or others you name for life or a term of years. The remaining assets then go to TLC.

Charitable Lead Annuity Trust pays a fixed dollar amount each year to TLC for a term of years. The accumulated assets then go back to you or others you name.

IRA Charitable Rollover

Individuals over 70 ½ years of age can roll over up to $100,000 from their IRA’s directly to TLC without having to recognize the distribution as income. This benefits both TLC and the individual, who is able to decrease their taxable income.

Life Insurance

Designate TLC as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or the assets of a retirement plan. As your insurance needs change during your lifetime, you may no longer need coverage to protect your loved ones. You can change your beneficiary to TLC and support our families.

Stock Donation

If you are planning to make a gift by check, you might consider making a gift of stock instead to reduce your capital gains exposure on appreciated securities. Give and save at the same time!
