At The Treatment and Learning Centers (TLC), we are a non-profit that provides a family of comprehensive services for individuals with disabilities in Rockville, Maryland. Our goal is to partner with physicians to ensure patients receive the specialized care they need.


Who We Are

TLC is a trusted nonprofit organization offering a family of services to support individuals of all ages with disabilities.

With over 70 years of experience, we provide expert care in Speech-Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Testing, Tutoring, and Counseling (including Neuropsychological Evaluations), Early Intervention Services, Audiology, Special Education (The Katherine Thomas School), and more.

How We Can Help Your Patients

Comprehensive Evaluations

ASD Evaluations, Neuropsychological, speech-language,  occupational therapy, auditory, and developmental assessments.

Therapy Services

Speech-language therapy (including feeding therapy and voice therapy), occupational therapy, counseling, and specialized interventions.

Autism & Learning Support

Individualized programs for children and adults.

Hearing & Audiology Services

Hearing tests, hearing aid services, and tinnitus management.

The Katherine Thomas School

Supports students with language and learning disabilities, Autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or other health impairments. in grades preK to grade 12.

Outcomes Adult Service

Advocating for adults with disabilities to find and keep jobs and live independently in the community. 

Testing, Tutoring & Counseling

We have many years of experiences as psychologists, social workers, educational diagnosticians, therapists, and tutors to help you or your child succeed. We offer full comprehensive assessments, individual, group, and family counseling, and specialized tutoring. In addition, we also offer screenings to help determine when interventions and/or comprehensive evaluations might be necessary.

Speech-Language and Occupational Therapy Red Flags

  • Struggling with handwriting, coloring, drawing, or cutting
  • Clumsiness & difficulty learning new motor tasks
  • Bothered by tags in clothing
  • Annoyed by messy hands & fingers
  • Difficulty following directions
  • Trouble pronouncing sounds or words correctly &/or using correct grammar
  • Frequently asks to have things repeated

Signs of Autism

  • Not responding to name.
  • Limited eye contact.
  • Not speaking as much or in the same way as peers.
  • Not initiating play.
  • Limited pointing or showing items of interest to others, or difficulty shifting attention to others’ interests.
  • Repetitive interests or behaviors.
  • Difficulty with changes in routine.
  • Sensory sensitivities (sound, textures, touch, flavors).

Out-of-Network

TLC provides supports to families with out-of-network benefits.

The Outcomes Adults Service

Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), The Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), Private pay and partnerships.

Financial Aid and Programs

  • Limited Financial Aid for Outpatient Services: Limited financial aid is available for all of our outpatient services based on household income.
  • Help Others Hear: Provides hearing aids at no cost to qualified individuals.

Age Range of Services

Speech-Language Pathology: Starting at 12 months of age

Occupational Therapy: Starting at 12 months of age

Testing, Tutoring, and Counseling: Testing: 3 years old for developmental evaluation with any concern or referral questions, 18 months for toddler autism evaluations; Tutoring: Kindergarten and up; Counseling: 2 years and older.

The Outcomes Service: DORS: Age 14+. DDA: Age 21+

The Family Hearing Center: Starting at newborn for hearing screenings to adults

The Katherine Thomas School: Pre-Kindergarten (Age 4) to Age 21.
